The short explanation of this alert was:

We are excited to report that the U.S. House of Representatives passed the Family Smoking Prevention and Tobacco Control Act last night with a final vote of 326 to 102.

The American Lung Association would like to thank YOU for all of your efforts to see this historic day come.  Once enacted, this legislation will give the U.S. Food and Drug Administration the authority it needs to regulate tobacco products, which are responsible for more than 438,000 deaths each year.

The overwhelming margin of support highlights the bipartisan consensus that the time has come for it to become law.

While we should celebrate this victory, we cannot afford to let up on our efforts.  Together, we must send a clear message to the U.S. Senate to pass this important public health bill in September. The legislation already has strong support of 57 Senators but we need more. Please click here to send a note to your Senator urging him or her to make sure this legislation is passed in September.

Please help us send a clear message to the U.S. Senate to pass this important public health bill. Send a note today; urging your Senators to make sure this legislation is passed by September.
