Campaign Unavailable We're sorry, this alert is no longer available. If you would like to learn more about ways you can take action, please visit American Lung Association of California. The short explanation of this alert was: Would you like to help stop urban sprawl and promote better land use planning and healthier communities? Most Californians can agree; urban sprawl is getting out of control, creating longer commutes in bumper to bumper traffic. Millions of people sitting in their vehicle, wasting gas and spewing toxics into the air when they could be getting work done or at home with their family. Traffic emissions not only generate smog, they are a major source of global warming pollution. In fact, the transportation sector is responsible for almost 40% of the greenhouse gas emissions in California and the passenger vehicle is responsible for the majority of these emissions. It’s obvious: California needs to take a strong leadership position to change entrenched land use and transportation planning patterns that promote sprawl and dependence on driving if the state is going to meet its greenhouse gas reduction targets. Will you take action today and ask you Assembly Member to vote YES on SB 375 (Steinberg)? If passed, SB 375 would require the California Air Resources Board to establish greenhouse gas reduction targets for each region of the state and require metropolitan planning organizations to write a transportation plan to achieve these targets. Furthermore, federal transportation dollars would flow only to projects that meet the new regional planning requirements. SB 375 is vital to the fight to combat global warming and will help improve the daily lives of all Californians. Please take action today!
